Sparkle the Lawyer was born as an online identity on a forum for a music festival in Northern California. The idea was to offer informed, lawyerly information to fellow festival-goers. Sparkle – no last name required – for a time moderated a forum for a rock band called Tea Leaf Green. Eventually Sparkle migrated to Twitter, where she landed as @SparkleTea.
Alas for Sparkle and the band, we have to constantly explain: We have no affiliation with the so-called Tea Party. They make us laugh, in fact. We predate them.
After the DOTUS Debacle was underway, Sparkle took to speaking up on Twitter. Suddenly the nearly irrelevant field of study before law became eerily relevant: Soviet Studies, Russian literature, Soviet propaganda, rhetoric, comparative international politics, American political theory, and foundational American history. Fun stuff but who knew it would give Sparkle a clue into the machinations of the DOTUS crew? Back then, when the Soviet Union was just loosening its grip, Poland and Solidarity were breaking free, running off to law school allowed Sparkle to leave all thoughts of autocracy and dystopias behind. In physical form, Sparkle went to law school, eyes on the horizon of possibilities. She went on to practice law, primarily defending accused criminals in trial and appellate courts, fighting for rights of the little guy whenever possible. Who knew how relevant the criminal law part of all this would become back then?
Decades later, well, Sparkle understands the nuances of the crazy, complex, and dangerous DOTUS Debacle. Her training helps her interpret the details.
Those of us who understand what is going on in our political times, and who can, have an obligation to help others understand it too. And with these many associates helping DOTUS for all their various reasons, with news moving faster than an html editor can keep up, it takes a crowd to keep track, remember, and vet the news. of our time. This Blog is to help Sparkle — and anyone else who cares to join in! — try to make sense of it all.
Once you understand it: Explain it.
Tell Everyone. Shed light.
